Companies venturing offshore in search of more economical supply lines and new revenue opportunities understand the complexities inherent in international trade. Ever-changing, multifaceted regulations concerning national security health and safety standards, rules of origin, anti-dumping, labeling, etc., lead to more complex trade, financial, compliance and logistics challenges, over and above the traditional global trade-management issues. The imperative for robust, reliable, user-friendly and trustworthy software with rich functionality is upon all global corporations. At best, an inadequate system is an inconvenience; at worst, it destroys a business. According to Aberdeen Group, companies that automate their global trade management to gain visibility and control of the entire international transaction, from sales-order creation to the delivery of tendered goods to financial settlement have reduced logistics costs by 9.8 percent, on average.

The absence of information technology infrastructure in many countries is perceived by the World Customs Organization as a major technical barrier, and the Internet as a means to resolve this "digital divide." Internet-based technology is a must for automation and integration of supply-chain processes; its true value is in what it makes possible - the application of knowledge in new ways, and the management of new, more complex supply-chain relationships, faster and more efficient.

Many companies are still using "islands of computerized information" manned by suppliers, customs brokers, forwarders and so on to complete their supply-chain logistics cycles. Consolidation of import, export, financial and trade processes into one integrated system lowers the cost of doing business. The quality system automates manual procedures, eliminates data redundancy, reduces errors, ensures compliance with government regulations, manages by exceptions, tracks shipments, and improves on-time deliveries and much more.

Designing scalable and Web-native systems and developing and deploying customizable high-quality global trade management applications is a do-or-die task for software companies.
